Ryan Chylinski is an American time-lapse photographer, entrepreneur, and outdoors enthusiast from the flagship city of Erie Pennsylvania. Founder of LearnTimelapse.com, a community powered time-lapse education and experimentation hub, Ryan's philosophy centers on teaching, sharing and a continual drive to never stop learning. A little while back I read a great ebook called Time-lapse Photography: A Complete Introduction to Shooting, Processing and Rendering Time-lapse Movies with a DSLR Camera by Ryan Chylinski (long name, I know.). One of the chapters dealt with the issue of mechanical induced flicker which I thought was a great nugget for any one doing timelapses. I'm also teaching a course on Skillshare with this book as a textbook. For me it’s about freedom. Time-lapse is a strange thing: It frees you from the normal flow of your routine and all that busyness of life, yet at the same time it can connect you to your surroundings more than anything else.
Do you think time-lapse should be left to the pros? I don’t think so.
Take some of the stuff shared here and invest it in your next clip but also throw some of it away, do your own tests and rewrite sections how you please. Don’t let anyone tell you that you are doing things the wrong way. If you are getting the results you want then that’s all that matters. Never forget that you are the artist and it’s your story.
It’s a real honor and privilege to partner with you on this time-lapse training journey. Thank you.
