Usbview.exe is a Windows GUI application that allows you to browse all USB controllers and connected USB devices on your system. The left pane in the main application window displays a connection-oriented tree view, and the right pane displays the USB data structures pertaining to the selected USB device, such as the Device, Configuration, Interface, and Endpoint Descriptors, as well as the. « AutoText 7.6 USBDeview 3.01 WebBrowserPassView Portable 2.07 » Comment Rules & Etiquette - We welcome all comments from our readers, but any comment section requires some moderation. It didn’t build and I got the error below:
error MSB8020: The build tools for WindowsApplicationForDrivers10.0 (Platform Toolset = ‘WindowsApplicationForDrivers10.0’) cannot be found. To build using the WindowsApplicationForDrivers10.0 build tools, please install WindowsApplicationForDrivers10.0 build tools. Alternatively, you may upgrade to the current Visual Studio tools by selecting the Project menu or right-click the solution, and then selecting “Retarget solution”.
What it suggest probably work but the tools it seems to point by default seem to Windows 10 and I am using Windows 7. The settings page states they are not installed.
Anyways to fix this issue go into project settings >> change ‘Platform toolset’ to ‘Visual Studio 2015 (v140)’. Clean and build again.
Now that error went away I was still getting compiler errors.

I looked around for ‘Retarget solution’ option but for some reasons it was not there. Maybe because I had only one project in the solution?
What retarget solution does is change the ‘Target Platform Version’ (it prompts for available choices). I changed that manually in project settings >> General >> ‘Target Platform Version’ to ‘10.0.10240.0’ from ‘8.1’ which were the two options available. This shows only the installed platforms so it could be different in your case.
Now after doing clean and built, these compiler errors went away.
But now I was getting this error:
Command line error D8016: ‘/ZI’ and ‘/clr’ command-line options are incompatible
To remove this errors go into project settings >> C/C++ >> General and change ‘Debug Information Format’ to /Zi from ZI.
Now go into C/C++ >> Code Generation and set ‘Enable Minimal Rebuild’ to No(/GM-).
Now it builds fine. I was trying build this 2nd time as an excercise for this blog but strangely enough I didn’t had the ‘retarget solution’ option this time but I got it build anyways.
